Should you worry about H1N1?

There's no reason to panic. You should definitely take precautions, like washing your hands allot. Wash your hands often with soap and water or use hand alcohol-based sanitizer - particularly before eating. Avoid being around people who are sick and be sure to wash your hands if you touch anything someone who seems sick might have touched.

H1N1influenza spreads in the same way that other flu viruses do - through air when a person who has the virus sneezes, coughs, or speaks. As with other flu viruses, people who have the virus can be contagious a day or so before their symptoms start, so they can pass it on before they know that they are sick. If you think you have the flu, stay home! Fever free is fever free without medication. You are safe to return to school 24 hours after your fever breaks. Make sure that there is a plan with your parents/guardians to manage a stay at home if you do become ill. (09/01/2009)
